This ancient and grizzled tree was met while backpacking the flanks of San Bernardino Peak.  Twisted roots clutched the top of a rocky ridge and gnarled limbs fanned in the Santa Ana breeze.  Swirling animated clouds and warm afternoon colors are rendered with energetic brushwork and metallic lines to create movement and enhance the joyful sensation of the painting.
