While hiking in the upper reaches of Zion National Park, I espied a stunted solitary pine tree precariously clinging atop a sandstone escarpment. An isolated sentinel withstanding raw elements in the harshest of climates. Bold textures, loose brushwork, and bright colors capture the austerity of the moment.
